4 Categories of Hazmat Storage Buildings
Whether you believe it or not, there are 4 categories used for storing hazmat cabinets from paints and inks, flammables, corrosives and acids as well as pesticides. All the cabinets made are designed primarily to keep every material safe and to meet OSHA guidelines at the same time.
Also, hazmat storage cabinets see to it that it passed NFPA or flammable storage and OSHA codes in every design it has. These safety cabinets also come in different sizes which range from 4 up to 90 gallon capacity and even sizes that could hold up to a couple of 55 gallon drums. Most of the time, the sizes from 12 gallons and up have at least an adjustable shelf. Well basically, there are more shelves you can have for bigger cabinets. The beauty about these safety cabinets is that they’re made from 18 gauge welded steel. They also have 1 1/2 inches of insulation, which is intentionally made in order to prevent the buildup of unstable temperature.
And to be able to prevent leaks to spill on the floor, the bottom part of cabinet has 2 inch lip as well. There are also two options available for these cabinets; one of it is the manual closing wherein the user should manually close the door in unfortunate event while the other style is self closing door. The latter has a fusible link which can melt once the temperature reaches 165 degrees allowing the door to automatically close if there’s an emergency. Flammable storage cabinets are painted in yellow, ink storage and paint storage on the other hand are painted red while corrosive and acid storage come in blue colors and lastly, pesticides are in green.
Yet another type of storage cabinet known is the cylinders which come in 2 basic types of it and what most the public know is the one used in gas grills. The second style of it is a lot taller and thinner tank. Again, there are the vertical cabinets that are designed for taller and thinner tanks which also has variable capacities that range from 5 to 20 cylinders. Horizontal cabinets on the other hand are for smaller tanks which has a capacity range of 4 to 16 tanks. These cabinets generally are painted in yellow but for horizontal cabinets, it usually are in plain aluminum.
All the hazmat cabinets come from directly from the manufacturers and all have required markings for safety cabinets. When choosing one, always take into account of the safety and security of your staffs and property. So if you have any hazardous material needed to be stored securely, be sure that you’re using the right storage cabinet for it. By doing so, it can prevent unwanted events.
